Last week we were called out to a property where the homeowner reported that her toilet was taking an age to empty after flushing. We started our investigation by lifting manhole covers. The picture is the first of 4 manholes this one being the first one nearest to the house. Manhole 2 was the same and Manhole 3 was half full. This drain run from the property to Manhole 4 is 45.00 metres long.
The cause of the problem was found in Manhole 4. It was full of roots. The roots were removed, the drain run emptied and cleaned with the necessary repairs being carried out.
If you have trees and/or large shrubs in your gardens that are in the vicinity of your drains be aware that plants love effluent and wherever possible will get their roots to it.
